State Transport Police Names Top Employees For 2012

The South Carolina State Transport Police held a ceremony today to recognize its top employees for 2012. The State Transport Police is a division of  SCDPS and is responsible for the enforcement and administration of state and federal laws governing commercial motor vehicles.

 

The awards honor STP employees throughout the state for outstanding achievement. The awards are based on employees’ performance in areas such as enforcement, commercial motor vehicle safety, out-of-service violations and overall work ethic.

The National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) will conduct its 21st annual food drive to combat hunger on Saturday, May 11. Letter carriers will collect non-perishable food donations on that day as they deliver mail along their postal routes.

 

It is the nation's largest single-day food drive, and is held annually on the second Saturday in May in 10,000 cities and towns in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Guam.

Sheriff: Wanted man threatens suicide, arrested following standoff

Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a wanted Fairfield County man following a two hour standoff in a cemetery in Kershaw County.

According to Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews, around 7:15 p.m., 40-year-old Robert Anthony Bass called Kershaw County dispatch and told them he wanted to turn himself in because Fairfield County authorities had warrants on him for burglary.

Bass told Kershaw County dispatch he was in the cemetery of Springvale Baptist Church, the report stated.
