DHEC launches Permit Central to streamline permitting process

 

The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control have unveiled Permit Central, a new initiative that simplifies the process for obtaining health and environmental permits, the agency announced today.

 

“Anyone who has ever run or owned a small business knows just how hard it can be, and today South Carolina has taken steps to help reduce this burden,” said Governor Nikki Haley. “It's a great day in South Carolina when we can save our businesses time because

Study: Fairfield in top 30 for healthiest county in SC

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A new study has ranked Fairfield County as the thirtieth healthiest place in South Carolina.

The rankings released Wednesday by the University of Wisconsin cite the county's adult obesity rate of 39%.

Beaufort County took the number one slot, with a relatively low adult obesity rate of 21%.

Marion County was listed as the state's unhealthiest county, with an adult obesity rate of 38%.

According to the rankings, South Carolina's overall adult obesity rate is 31%.

South Carolina Electric & Gas is urging business and residential customers to be aware of scam artists posing as SCE&G employees.

 

A number of customers have reported instances of individuals portraying themselves as SCE&G employees over the phone. In several instances, the individuals are requesting that customers purchase a payment card from a local convenience or drug store and then call back with the card’s information for immediate bill payment.
