Sheriff: Wanted man threatens suicide, arrested following standoff

Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a wanted Fairfield County man following a two hour standoff in a cemetery in Kershaw County.

According to Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews, around 7:15 p.m., 40-year-old Robert Anthony Bass called Kershaw County dispatch and told them he wanted to turn himself in because Fairfield County authorities had warrants on him for burglary.

Bass told Kershaw County dispatch he was in the cemetery of Springvale Baptist Church, the report stated.

Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense In America To Hold Rally At The Statehouse

Only eleven weeks after the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America has decided to hold a rally at the SC Statehouse in Columbia on March 2nd at 10:30 a.m.

The peaceful rally will allow parents and other supporters across the state to reach out to SC legislators about demanding more gun regulation in order to prevent gun violence.

Speakers are still not finalized, but will include: A Columbia mother directly impacted by gun violence when her daughter was murdered by a stolen gun; a Lowcountry public school teacher worki

Authorities would like to warn citizens about a current calling scam offering grants and rebates.

Report: Man slashes mattress, threatens victim over woman

A Winnsboro man was arrested on a charge of malicious injury to personal property.

According to a Lexington County Sheriff’s Department incident report, deputies arrested 51-year-old Jeffrey Warren after officers say he slashed a man’s king size mattress valued at $500.

On Nov. 28, officers responded to Pond Branch Road in reference to an active civil disturbance.

Upon arrival, officers met with the victim who was standing in the front yard of the residence grossly intoxicated, the report stated.

Thursday Community Leaders, Media, Law Enforcement and Citizen Volunteers gathered together to celebrate 30 years of Crimestoppers – 30 successful years of community involvement and anonymity.

 

During the 30 year anniversary celebration, families of crime victim’s, law enforcement and community activists gathered at South Carolina Bank and Trust Headquarters Building in Columbia to honor a program that has done so much for the State and our citizens.
