RCSD and Midlands Safe Kids Conduct FREE Child Safety Seat Check

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced that from 9:00 AM – 12 noon on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Capital Chevrolet, 111 Newland Road. Richland County Sheriff’s Deputies in conjunction with Midlands Safe Kids will be conducting Child Seat Safety Checks. Sheriff Lott realizes the importance of protecting our most precious cargo and knows an improperly restrained toddler or infant is at risk to injury.

Sheriff Lott states that at least 93% of all child car seats are misused or incorrectly installed. Richland County Sheriff’s Department certified technicians have found that a majority of the errors occur with the car seat harness, seat belts, or with the harness clips. The two most common problems found by our technicians were that the vehicle safety belt did not hold the car seat tightly in the vehicle and that the harness straps were not snug against the child.

Sheriff Leon Lott and Midlands Safe Kids has set up a free technician day to make sure child car seats are installed properly. The safety checkpoint will be from 9:00 AM – 12 noon on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Capital Chevrolet, 111 Newland Road – technician’s will also provide answers to your questions and to new and current parents, grandparents, and caregivers.
