SCDPS urges proper use of child safety seats

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety (SCDPS) is reminding parents and caregivers just how important it is to have their children restrained in properly installed child passenger safety seats through a series of billboards that have been placed around the state. Last year, nine children under the age of six were killed and another 9,300 injured in motor vehicle collisions in South Carolina. 

 

“Nationally, motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 12 years old,” said SCDPS Director Leroy Smith.

Winnsboro’s Boy Scout Troop 49 to host a merit badge event

August 25 – 26, the Winnsboro’s Boy Scout Troop 49 will be hosting a merit badge extravaganza again this year which will bring not only lots of scouts but their parents.   They come from not only South Carolina, but Georgia and North Carolina.  There were more than 75 scouts that participated last year and they expect more this year.  These parents will be looking for lodging, restaurants and activities to occupy their time while their sons are working on merit badges.  There are currently 23 different items listed as options for the merit badge.
