Looking for a fun way to spend your summer and enjoy reading? Come out to the Main Library in Fairfield County on June 2 from 10 AM- 1 PM for their Summer Reading Sign Up Party.

Bring the kids! There will be free hot dogs and other fun goodies. The Main Library is located at 300 West Washington Street.

June 13 - 17, the UniverSoul Circus will return to Columbia with a big top thrill-ride infused with an unparalleled global mix of circus artistry, music, dance and style – all inspired by reflections of the world around US.

The UniverSoul Circus 2012 production entitled “US” – featuring Shaolin Kung Fu acrobats from China, bone-breaking contortionists with a hop-hop flair from Guinea, hilarious acrobatic comedy from South Africa, and pro-style hip hop dancers from the United States – will be performing in Columbia in the parking lot Benedict College Football Stadium

Mother of Your Community: Jane Hannon

My nomination isn’t for my mother, but for my mother in law Jane Hannon. She has four children, Heather, Skip, Brian, and Michael and six grandchildren. These are just the ones that are blood related to her. There are lots of others that call her mom, that she has taken in or helped take care of over the years. When the youngest two played football for Fairfield Central in their state championship days everyone knew her because she was always there.

SC ranks 48th overall for the financial stability of its residents

In South Carolina today, 25.1% of households are “asset poor,” meaning they have little or no financial cushion to rely on if unemployment or another emergency leads to a loss of income, according to a report released today by the national nonprofit Corporation for Enterprise Development (CFED).
