Woman trying to care for abandoned horses | News
BLYTHEWOOD, SC (WIS)- Sandra has seen more than her share of neglect. And so has her younger buddy, Lizzy. Minge Wiseman rescued the horses from Fairfield County.
Animal Control there says the owners left town, leaving three horses behind. But Wiseman says a two-year old horse didn't make it. She weighed 200 pounds when she died.
"You know it's heartbreaking, but you just roll up your sleeves and get to work and do whatever's necessary," said Wiseman.
Sandra is at least 20 years old. Lizzy is about three. A Fairfield County veterinarian helped keep them alive until a group called Hoof and Paw called Wiseman to take them in.
She's been nursing them back to health and treating the sores on their backs. They probably won't be riding horses but Wiseman is hoping someone out there would like some company.
"These horses deserve better, they don't deserve this treatment," said Wiseman.
Wiseman thinks she can get 50 pounds on them a month until they're at the right weight. Meanwhile, she and Fairfield County are asking anyone with animals they can't care for to turn them in, no questions asked, so they can be saved before things get this bad.
"Don't let them sit there and deteriorate like these horses have," said Wiseman. "We want to provide for them and see that their life is much better."
Wiseman is looking for any help the veterinarian can get to cover some of these costs. And of course, she's looking for someone to take them in.
