Runoff elections to be held June 26

Just a reminder, on June 26, the runoff elections for Sheriff and SC House seat for District 41 will take place in Fairfield County.

Residents can vote in this election even if they did not vote on June 12.

Candidates:

Herman Young and Will Montgomery for Sheriff. As there is no Republican candidate, whoever wins this will be Sheriff.

Mary Gail Douglass and Annie McDaniel for SC House. The winner of this election will face William Gray (Republican) in November.

Absentee voting deadlines approach

Absentee voting is underway throughout South Carolina, and the State Election Commission wants to inform voters about associated procedures and deadlines. Voters who meet one of the qualifying reasons listed below may cast an absentee ballot either in person or by mail.

DOJ Approves SC Congressional Map

On Friday, the U.S. Department of Justice sent notice that the South Carolina Congressional Map had received preclearance. This notice of approval included the addition of South Carolina’s newly added 7th Congressional District.

Congressman Mulvaney reacts to most recent Labor Department report

U.S. Congressman Mick Mulvaney released the following statement Friday on the most recent report from the Labor Department, which showed unemployment stuck at 9.1% with no job growth:

Once again, we’ve received a poor jobs report with little hope for improvement any time soon. Once again, we’ve seen the ill effects of bigger government, more spending, and increased regulation.
