SC GED Pass Rate Exceeds National Average Again

South Carolina GED test-takers continued to improve their passage rate on the high school equivalency exam in 2011, and the state has continued to outperform the national passage rate for the past two years, the State Department of Education reported today.

 

The state’s passage rate rose to 77.6 percent from last year’s 75.3 percent, compared to the national average of 72.2 percent. South Carolina achieved the second highest GED passage rate in the Southeast. Only North Carolina (86.9 percent) exceeded South Carolina’s passage rate.

The School Supply Drive hosted by the Midlands Workforce Development Board will be held at all Midlands Workforce locations from July 16th through the 20th from 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. All of the donations will benefit The Cooperative Ministry.

On Monday, Bojangles’ announced that, with the support of its loyal customers, both company- and franchise-operated restaurants across the state have raised $28,908 for South Carolina Future Minds, a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting teachers and public education.

70 SC seniors graduate with perfect attendance

Students are allowed by state law to miss up to 10 days of school per year, but 70 students in the graduating class of 2012 never missed a single one.

 

Thirty-three districts have 2012 graduates who have gone to school through their entire academic careers without missing a day.  Spartanburg 6 led the pack with seven graduates, followed by Aiken County with six and Horry County with five.  Greenville, Lexington 1, Pickens, and York 3 each had four graduates with perfect 12-year attendance.
